The Deputy Director of the African Center of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ) at GIMPA Law School, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu from the 26th to 30th November, 2018 visited the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague at the invitation of the Court. The visit focused on possible areas of collaboration and cooperation between the ACICJ and the ICC to further advance the frontiers of International Criminal Law and Justice in the world in general, and Africa in particular.
Whilst in The Hague, Dr. Agyeman-Budu held talks with several senior officials of the ICC including the President of the Court, Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji of Nigeria and the Prosecutor, Madam Fatou Bensouda of The Gambia. The discussions centered on upcoming projects of the ACICJ and how the Center can further support the work of the ICC in rooting out impunity and countering the negative narrative regarding the Court since its establishment.
Dr. Agyeman-Budu also met with a cross-section of International Non-Governmental Organizations and Institutions working on International Criminal Law and Justice issues in The Hague. These included representatives of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Redress and Leiden University. It is the hope that this visit will lead to mutually beneficial relationships between the ACICJ and the aforementioned potential partners in advancing International Criminal Law and Justice in Africa.
