International Criminal Law and Justice: An Overview

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: ACICJ TRAINING PROGRAMME
The African Centre of International Criminal Justice (ACICJ), located at the Faculty of Law of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra – Ghana, is a research and training center, whose focus includes, but is not limited to, creating awareness and disseminating accurate information regarding the importance of International Criminal Law & Justice in the world in general, and the International Criminal Court (ICC) in particular. The aim of the training programmes of the ACICJ is to help build legal capacity across the continent by providing international criminal law education to African lawmakers, lawyers, journalists, law students, civil society and the general public at large.
The first training programme of the ACICJ in 2020, made possible with support from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is tailor-suited for African law students and will provide them with an in-depth overview of International Criminal Law & Justice (ICLJ). The aim is to introduce the participants to the overall objective of the ICLJ regime from a historical perspective to present times. The various concepts, peculiarities and intricacies of the ICLJ system will be thoroughly examined and simplified through interactive sessions, moderated discussions and simulated exercises. The training programme will be facilitated by experts within the field of ICLJ including leading academics in the field, as well as top officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The ACICJ thereby invites applications from law students, enrolled in Law Faculties/Schools in Ghana for this intensive two-day training programme to be held in Accra, Ghana from the 12th to 13th October 2020. The ACICJ will be responsible for meals and snacks for the duration of the training programme. All COVID-19 health and safety protocols will however be strictly adhered to, observed and enforced. Certificates of Participation will be awarded to students who participate fully in all the sessions.
The application should include the following:
- A One-Page Statement of Interest, demonstrating the applicant’s interest in and commitment to the ideals of International Criminal Law and Justice;
- A Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the applicant;
- An up to date Academic Transcript from the applicant’s Law Faculty/School; and
- A Recent Passport Size Photograph of the applicant.
The deadline for submission of applications is 5th October 2020. Applications are on a rolling basis, and should be sent as email attachments to [email protected].
